John Barera & Will Martin Debut Live Set

John Barera and Will Martin just released an amazing EP called “Graceless“. The title must be some kind of joke because every track exudes grace and precision. John and Will have released a lot of music together over the years. One of my favorite tracks of theirs is Awake. Lush sampled strings mixed with a driving beat and baseline make for a catchy club tune.

John and Will have been putting together a live set that is debuting tonight at Middlesex Lounge tonight at 9PM. Seeing as how the two are roommates, purchase I have no doubt that their chemistry will lead to some magical moments.

Check the Facebook event for more information. Get ready for some awesome grooves and fun times to be had by all!

John Barera and Will Martin’s Graceless

“In a contemporary musical landscape frequently dominated by dusty and over-distorted ‘outsider house’, Boston duo John Barera and Will Martin provide the perfect antidote: straightforward, dancefloor-primed house tracks with bags of charm and an optimum amount of soul.” — Resident Advisor

John Barera and Will Martin’s Graceless has finally been unveiled! Putting on the first track is like dropping into a place where time stops and rhythm reigns supreme. Smooth synth lines and wavy tones swirl around you with ease and precision. This album is great for the dance floor but also for those pensive moments alone.  Every track has its own unique identity and moves the album forward. A link to buy the record in Europe as well as listen to sections of each song can be found here.

“It’s ironic that Barera and Martin would choose Graceless as the title for their debut album, because almost everything about their music exudes grace and poise. The title track is a smorgasbord of pleasing textures, including warm electric piano, caressing strings and a gently nudging bassline.” — Resident Advisor

Here is an interview with Barera and Martin. Listen to Reality by the duo below, which came out on Steffi’s label Dolly last year.

frankly, there isn’t a weak or place holder effort anywhere along the way, instead every jam – and they are jams – is brimful of vibes … it’s clear from this opus that these two experienced heads are masterful musicians and composers as much as they are accomplished producers, and that’s not something you can say of most modern house makers. as a result, graceless is one of the purest, most unadulterated and enjoyable albums of recent years. — teshno

Stateside, you can buy the vinyl from Amoeba SF here. The cost is just $20, and that includes shipping. Do it right now.
