Talented Kids of Mmmmaven’s Beat Academy Camp to Perform Friday

This Friday, our talented young students of the MMMMaven Beat Academy program will be showcasing the skills they have learned throughout the week long summer camp.

In the camp, students from the ages of 9-12 learn about industry standard equipment, basic mixing techniques, recording, and stage-presence. Several workshops such as Music Business, Songwriting, MIDI Mapping, and more are provided for the students to help educate and make the most of their experience at MMMMaven.

This is a great event for family and for those interested in joining the next Beat Academy Summer Camp session. Food and refreshments will be provided. The fun begins Friday at 3:30pm. If you are in the are, come on by.

Watching these young people fulfill their dream of becoming a real DJ is something to behold and almost a reward in and of itself.

Beat Academy Open House 2/16

Here’s your chance to meet the instructors and play around with the equipment!

Is music a passion of your little one? Well, making mix-tapes to performing live in front of friends and family is not far-fetched. This Monday the 16th come into Mmmmaven to get a feel for the Beat Academy!

What is Beat Academy?
Over the course of the week, campers will learn the ins and outs of djing on industry- leading equipment and software, including the number 1 dj software in the U.S., Serato. Students will produce their first six song mini-mix with different styles and genres, then see if they have what it takes to play in front of a crowd of screaming fans.

What we’ve found is that this course is a great introduction to the basics of music in general. Our young students learn basics like phrasing, key structures, melodies and introductory music writing skills. As our Co-Director put it so eloquently over at LinkedIn:

In our lab, when we teach young people music skills through a device or a controller, their eyes light up. They suddenly love music. I’ve had parents say as much again and again: “My daughter has learned more in one month here than she ever did at piano classes.”

It’s Graduation Day for The Beat Academy

After a long week of rigorous scratching and mixing, it’s finally time for the young DJs of the Beat Academy to show everyone what they’ve got. Join us tonight for Beat Academy’s Final Performance at the Mmmmaven Project here in Central Square! Campers ages 10 – 14 will show us what they’ve got before graduating from Mmmmaven’s inaugural summer camp.

Over the course of the week, campers learned the ins and outs of industry standard equipment, got their hands dirty in some new technology, and produced their first six-song mini-mix. They learned how to organize their favorite tracks and get in the mix with different styles, and now is their opportunity to see if they have what it takes to play in front of a crowd of screaming fans!

Come out and support the new generation of DJs at 5PM, you’ll be blown away.

Join us for Beat Academy‘s Final Performance at the Mmmmaven Project! Campers ages 10 – 14 will show us what they learned after an intensive week-long DJ boot camp.
