Red Bull is gearing up for another round of its traveling Music Academy workshops in 2014. This year’s edition will be held in Tokyo, and applications have just opened. The event will select two groups of 30 participants to fly to Tokyo for a two-week excursion of recording sessions, performances and lectures.
Applications for the 2014 Academy, which runs in two sessions from October 12-24 to November 2-14, are open until March 18th. The unconventional application spans 53 questions and a whopping 19 pages, and must be mailed in the old-fashioned way along with a CD copy of original music or a DJ mix. The in-depth form ranges from standard questions (“What do you expect to get out of the academy personally?”) to wholly unexpected ones (“And while we’re on the subject of sobbing, when was the last time you cried anyways?”) in its quest to reveal applicants’ personalities and musical inclinations.
The application is open to anyone over the age of 20 with a passion for music. The Academy website states that an enthusiast in any capacity, “producer, vocalist, instrumentalist, beat-maker, engineer, songwriter or DJ,” is welcome to apply. Further details and the application download are available at the Music Academy website.
Red Bull also released a compilation of music from former participants in the Music Academy this week. Take a listen below:
