This summer, Mmmmaven will have our first ever Beat Academy summer camp! For one week in July, youth ages 10-14 can come to our studios to learn about DJing, music production, recording, and more! All at our state-of-the-art facilities located directly off of the Central Square T stop. On top of learning about music, campers will enjoy a variety of outdoor games, arts and crafts, and other activities to keep them active!
Studies have shown that music lessons during our youth help brain development. Music is like a workout for our minds, and through exercising we strengthen connections in our brain. These connections likely correlate to the decline in cognitive ability as we age, and in studies of adults 60-73, the musicians in the group showed the highest cognitive function. Adolescents who play music are even shown to do better in school.
Still not convinced? Let us help! This Sunday from 12-6 at District Hall we will have an open house where you and your kid(s) can come in and have a blast! There will be plenty of helpful people there to answer any question you have and on top of that we have a fun day planned for your enjoyment:
Let’s Write Lyrics! (12:30) Marcie Joy will cover the basics of lyric writing and combining lyrics with melodies. The voice is often the most recognized and remembered instrument in a song, come find out what it’s all about!
Music Technology Petting Zoo. (1:30) It’s like the regular petting zoo, but less messy, (hopefully) less smelly, and with a bunch of cool technology that’s open for hands-on fun! So maybe it’s not like a regular petting zoo, but we like to think it’s even better.
Hit the Decks with DJ Leah V. (4:30) Come try out DJing for real! Leah teaches in our youth programs and will be giving attendees some starting pointers.
Check out everything Mmmmaven has to offer in our summer camp and in our courses! The open house is a great way to have fun and get to know us a little better. This is a free workshop, RSVP and get more info!
