Here’s your chance to meet the instructors and play around with the equipment!
Is music a passion of your little one? Well, making mix-tapes to performing live in front of friends and family is not far-fetched. This Monday the 16th come into Mmmmaven to get a feel for the Beat Academy!
What is Beat Academy?
Over the course of the week, campers will learn the ins and outs of djing on industry- leading equipment and software, including the number 1 dj software in the U.S., Serato. Students will produce their first six song mini-mix with different styles and genres, then see if they have what it takes to play in front of a crowd of screaming fans.
RSVP to the open house here.
What we’ve found is that this course is a great introduction to the basics of music in general. Our young students learn basics like phrasing, key structures, melodies and introductory music writing skills. As our Co-Director put it so eloquently over at LinkedIn:
In our lab, when we teach young people music skills through a device or a controller, their eyes light up. They suddenly love music. I’ve had parents say as much again and again: “My daughter has learned more in one month here than she ever did at piano classes.”

Hope to see you on the 16th! Don’t forget to RSVP here.
Want to learn how to DJ, produce electronic music, or just get involved in the scene, but don’t know where to begin? Then get your feet wet by coming to our open house on Fridays from 4-8 PM!
Every Friday evening our doors are open to anyone and everyone curious about the art of DJing and electronic music production. Come in and meet instructors, try out our gear, and become part of our rapidly growing community! We regularly host discussions of upcoming events and new technologies, Ableton Live Meet-ups, Groupmuse parties, and DJ/audio production workshops. And it’s all free!
This Friday, 8/15, learn how to go “From Session to Stage” with accomplished producer Time Warp. He will show you a method for taking your complex, plugin-filled session and turning it into a playable, manipulatable live performance utilizing Push, APC, or your favorite controller, that won’t skip or freeze up. Finally, we’ll further implement this method by reintroducing live keyboards.
Interested in pursuing DJing or electronic music production further? Check out the courses we offer and contact us for more information, a tour of the studios, and a free DJ lesson!
Do you want your kids spending their summer learning something new? Are you searching for a unique summer camp experience that can change their lives? Beat Academy is what you’re looking for. For the week we will teach your child the basics of DJing, mixing, recording, and more, all of this on top of variety of fun musical and outdoor activities. Students walk away with their first mix (which they will have the opportunity to perform), marketing materials, a swag bag, and a love for music!
The camp welcomes all aspiring DJs from ages 10-14, and will be held during the third week of July. This Friday we are hosting an open house where you can come see the site, check out the equipment, and meet our awesome instructors! This is a great chance to see what the camp is all about.
RSVP and get more info about Friday and we’ll see you there! If you can’t make it, we teach DJ classes for all ages all year round!
This summer, Mmmmaven will have our first ever Beat Academy summer camp! For one week in July, youth ages 10-14 can come to our studios to learn about DJing, music production, recording, and more! All at our state-of-the-art facilities located directly off of the Central Square T stop. On top of learning about music, campers will enjoy a variety of outdoor games, arts and crafts, and other activities to keep them active!
Studies have shown that music lessons during our youth help brain development. Music is like a workout for our minds, and through exercising we strengthen connections in our brain. These connections likely correlate to the decline in cognitive ability as we age, and in studies of adults 60-73, the musicians in the group showed the highest cognitive function. Adolescents who play music are even shown to do better in school.
Still not convinced? Let us help! This Sunday from 12-6 at District Hall we will have an open house where you and your kid(s) can come in and have a blast! There will be plenty of helpful people there to answer any question you have and on top of that we have a fun day planned for your enjoyment:
Let’s Write Lyrics! (12:30) Marcie Joy will cover the basics of lyric writing and combining lyrics with melodies. The voice is often the most recognized and remembered instrument in a song, come find out what it’s all about!
Music Technology Petting Zoo. (1:30) It’s like the regular petting zoo, but less messy, (hopefully) less smelly, and with a bunch of cool technology that’s open for hands-on fun! So maybe it’s not like a regular petting zoo, but we like to think it’s even better.
Hit the Decks with DJ Leah V. (4:30) Come try out DJing for real! Leah teaches in our youth programs and will be giving attendees some starting pointers.
Check out everything Mmmmaven has to offer in our summer camp and in our courses! The open house is a great way to have fun and get to know us a little better. This is a free workshop, RSVP and get more info!
