Creative Halloween Costumes

It’s that time of year again: Halloween is upon us. And, while many will be dressing up to celebrate, some will take their costumes to the next level. Here are some of our favorite music-themed Halloween costume ideas:

Deadmau5’s Cheese Helmet

Deadmau5 Cheese Helmet

Get it? Cause he’s a mouse!  And mice eat…. ok nevermind.  This fan-made replica of Deadmau5’s famous helmet actually looks really close to the original (pictured below).  Nice work!  (You can also purchase this replica here)

Bonus points for getting the whole squad involved.  A relatively simple, but nonetheless creative costume to feed your craving for 70’s techno.

Combining the unique look of Chromeo with Dire Straits’ video for “Money For Nothing”, these two have created a truly awesome Halloween costume.

Kid Skrillex

They grow up so fast.  Maybe Skrillex was right when he said that soon babies would be making music.

Have fun out there kids! And remember, if you need a last minute reccomendation, you really can’t got wrong with Bloodfeast. With its $1,000 cash prize (!!), the crowd really goes all out!

Bloodfeast Makes Its Return This Saturday

Last year witnessed Bloodfeast take its first hiatus after a decade’s worth of costume contests, dancing, and guest DJs.

Thankfully, this Saturday, the New England chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists have decided to resurrect this Halloween rager for its eleventh annual celebration.

First celebrated in 2004, Bloodfeast was started by then New England SPJ chapter heads, Emily Sweeney and Lissa Harris, as a way to raise money for the organization’s journalism student scholarship fund. Since then, the NESPJ has stuck to their traditions of holding their event at Boston nightclub, Machine, and promoting Red Cross blood drives.

Mmmmmaven’s very own co-founder DJ David Day will be making an appearance for his “annual unretirement DJ set.” Additional acts include Together Boston’s director of production Punketta (find her Cathouse Attic set archived here), Byoosik, Sekret-DJ, a B-52’s cover band the Appliques, and live painting by Landon Richmond of Know No Truth.

We know you have tons of options for a Halloween Saturday, but Machine’s soundsystem is massive, this veteran party brings out the freaks, and it’s a rare opportunity to hear DJ David Day, a Make It New resident for 8 years, dig into the darkest, scariest music in his collection: Industrial, Electroclash, EBM.

For example, he has assured me you’ll be hearing this.

Plus it’s all for a good cause. RSVP here.
