October Make It New

LAPALUX-pictures-music

Lapalux

Upon first listen, it’s easy to lump Lapalux in with the LA beat scene that congregates at The Low End Theory. He’s signed to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label and his tunes are covered in dense layers of the city’s characteristic smog.

Hailing instead from Essex, UK, Lapalux (Stuart Howard) represents LA interests abroad. The haze, hip-hop, and beats are among the ingredients added generously into Howard’s own secret recipe that can only be cooked slow and low.

A master of the sample, Lapalux cuts things up with a precise blend of chaos and stability that keeps in line with Brainfeeder’s trend of upending expectations. Speaking of which, Howard just scored a short film by Nick Rutters entitled Chrysalis.

Lapalux is a man of infinite talent and surely not one to be missed!

Get your comfy clothes on and prepare to get down.

KiNK

One of Bulgaria’s biggest industries is in the power engineering sector. One look at Strahil Velchev’s live setup will demonstrate how the man has applied this influence to his music.

Velchev, performing under the KiNK alias, has harnessed his passion for technology and hardware to make everything from house to techno to broken beat on more labels than you can count on two hands.

KiNK is too prolific and too diverse to have any one release singled out. He is truly a legend and you’ll have to take our word on that. Or check out his Boiler Room set below for concrete proof:

RESIDENTS NIGHT

Once a month, we open our doors and let go of the cover charge to allow anyone and everyone to enjoy the expert dance floor curation of our favorite DJs in the city: Our residents. To explain: A “resident DJ” is someone who calls this or that night a kind of home base, always playing that specific party on a regular basis.

This month features Coralcola, aka Mikey Lee, our newest and youngest resident DJ, in addition to Baltimoroder and the great Alan Manzi. Coralcola has played anything and everything, in some cases quite literally. His All Request Night at Ralph’s Diner in Worcester is legendary, while parties like “Middle School Dance” has also seen him in the DJ booth. But his true love is in the cutting-edge, the sounds of the future, in some cases dark and in some cases ambient. So his DJ sets are informed with a view of a genre less future, where all sound is accepted and pure. It’s a world we all want to inhabit.

At this point, Manzi and Baltimoroder should need no introduction, so just get ready to move to the music our friendly selectors can provide at no cost to you.

Martyn
Martyn

If there’s one word to describe Martyn, it’s versatile. Martyn first came to prominence as a DJ importing the Drum & Bass sound from the UK into his native Holland. After riding the d&b wave to its crest, the fast rising tide of dubstep caught his ear by way of Kode9‘s seminal “Sine of the Dub.” This led to a musical shift for Martyn, and a unique new blueprint for the burgeoning sound.

Since embracing the dubstep sound, and mixing it with the house and techno influences he grew up on, Martyn has featured on some of the most prominent dance music labels to date, including Warp, Hessle Audio, and Hyperdub, to name a few. More recently, he was featured on the RA recommended, anthem heavy, Think and Change compilation from Boddika’s NonPlus+.

Martyn is known for bending genres in both his tunes and his sets, never afraid to sprinkle bits of Prince and Pet Shop Boys into his forward thinking, bassed out mixes.

With a nearly 20-year stint rinsing just about every type of music imaginable, Martyn is truly a DJ’s DJ and never fails to bring it.

Put the kids to bed early, get your dancing shoes on, and prepare to wear them down to the sole.

Martyn is an absolute treat and not one to be missed.
