3 Reasons Not to Miss George Fitzgerald Tonight at #MakeItNew

Screenshot 2014-06-19 at 5.17.02 PM
It’s already Thursday, which is practically the weekend, and #MakeItNew is tonight, so start your weekend off right. George Fitzgerald is coming to spin a killer mainset, supported by residents Baltimoroder and Alan Manzi. If you’re still having second thoughts, here are 3 reasons to not miss #MakeItNew

1. George releases music on AUS Records

AUS is a one of the few labels that it’s worth previewing every release because they have defined their dancefloor packing sound and continue to maintain it. George is no exception, His classic Child EP is filled with sizzling hi-hats and grooving bass-lines to keep any house-head jacking into the early morning.

2. People can be spotted dancing in his Boiler Room set

It’s a either a miracle, or–more likely–sheer talent, but Mr. Fitzgerald is able to get a room filled with hipsters to dance. If you have ever watched a Boiler Room set before, you will know how rare it is for anyone to deviate from their shoe-gazing and phone twiddling routine. Have a look below to observe the man in action.

3. He is no stranger to #MakeItNew

This man is a seasoned veteran, having appeared twice before to bring the his dark house to Boston. He’s familiar with the crowd and exactly what everyone wants to hear, so some exclusives and unreleased tunes may very well pop up in the mix.

Now that you’ve been thoroughly convinced, RSVP to the Facebook event and make sure to show up before 11PM for discounted cover

#3Reasons not to Miss @Recloose at #MakeItNew

Screenshot 2014-05-29 at 1.14.39 PM

Tonight the established house and techno sound of Recloose is hitting Make It New for the second time. His dedication to Detroit funk has now brought him throughout the world. He’s recorded with the city’s most respected musicians and now lives in New Zealand (true!). He’s played Make It New before but this time we’re bringing in his friend and Boston DJ royalty DJ Kon. Kon plus Recloose plus Alan Manzi? A recipe for freakish, funk-filled frivolity.

Here’s three other reasons to hit the club tonight.

  • 1. Recloose is a seasoned veteran.
  • If there’s one thing we’ve learned over 10 years doing this its that the veterans always deliver. Recloose himself has been working dancefloors for over ten years so his ability to read a crowd and control the room is nearly as natural as breathing. So when someoe of Matthew Chicoine‘s stature comes in, we just hand him the club and we’re done. There’s no discussion on what he might play, should play or would play. It’s almost beneath him to suggest anything.

The point is: You can trust him to make it a night to remember.

  • 2. Kon is also playing.
  • Speaking of seasoned vets, Boston’s Kon is, err, i-Kon-ic. And as the two have crossed paths travelling around the world they’ve become somewhat of kindred souls. So will they go b2b? Will one play a house record and the other play the disco record it sampled? Will they play rare hip-house all night? Who cares? A meeting of two such musical minds in the mix is worth $10 just to watch it happen, not to mention hearing it.

  • 3. OK, you’re probably going to hear A LOT of disco and reedits.
  • To be honest no one digs crates like these two. Record store owners run and hide when these guys roll through. And disco, in case you haven’t heard, is making an absolutely roaring comeback. The disco underground was escorted into the 1980s via the creation of house, then techno then who knows what all and now disco is all like: “Remember me?” Kon does. Matthew does.

    And you will tonight.

3 Reasons Not to Miss #MakeItNew Residents Night

    make it new 327

    1. John Barera is fresh off a rave review from Fact Magazine

It’s the free Residents Night at Make It New, which means time to shine a spotlight on Mmmmaven’s finest. This week, John Barera has already found himself in the spotlight for an enthusiastic review of his new Yen EP with Will Martin in Fact Magazine‘s monthly house and techno column. Kristan Caryl says “Awake” is “like mainlining sunshine straight into your veins.” Quite the endorsement.

    2. Coracola has a new track out

Mikey Lee, aka Coracola, just dropped a new Balearic-flavored track, fittingly titled “Balearic Raver Summer Dreamz 2K14.” With the weather still freezing, some summer-y vibes (at an extremely free show) will certainly lift your spirits.

    3. It’s free!

Have we mentioned that? Residents Night offers three killer DJs (Alan Manzi joins John Barera and Coracola) at Middlesex Lounge with no cover charge. As in completely free.
