This Friday Mmmmaven and Bowery Boston are teaming up to present one of the hottest new talents in dance music, Bakermat at The Sinclair in Cambridge. This show’s long since been sold-out, but here’s a few quick reminders as to why you guys snatched up all those tickets in the first place.
1. Bakermat is one of the leaders of the tropical house movement.
“Tropical house” is a nascent subgenre of house music that favors slowed tempos and emphasizes plenty of Caribbean instrumentation in its mixes. Bakermat’s emotionally-charged music features its fair share of horns, steel drums, and marimba in its rhythmic grooves, thereby crucially playing off the vibes without ever really topping out too high on the BPM scale.
2. This is probably your last chance to see him a small venue.
Bakermat is still a relatively young project for the Dutch-born Lodewijk Fluttert as he put out just his fourth release- the “Teach Me” single-under the moniker in early January. Bakermat has come a long way in just three short years, and as his curated stage at this past summer’s Tomorrowland suggests, dude is en route to blowing up around the world in a big way. That exposure hasn’t quite made it stateside yet, but this is just his first North American tour. We predict he’ll be at a much bigger venues on the next go-around, and they’ll probably sell out too.

3. You might just fall in love with someone there.
To say Bakermat’s music is romantic is an exercise in extreme restraint. This stuff is all vibes all the time: a near-perfect blend of soothing instrumental work and thumping 4/4 beats that never work itself up too hard. It’s the ideal soundtrack to making a new connection.
This 18+ show is sold out, but The Sinclair is likely to open up a few tickets at the door. Stay in touch with us or follow Bowery Boston just in case.
