Well, well, well, The Guardian just did a profile on the latest release from our special guest opener Cultures of Soul.
The story of Gospel House and what the label calls “Divine Disco” is very compelling, but not quite as compelling as what Horse Meat Disco‘s James Hillard said about the phenomenon’s grasp in the gay underground:
To be honest, a lot of the lyrics are about getting on your knees and receiving the Lord,” he says. “If you just think of Jesus as some really sexy Mexican guy, the ideas and emotions are the same. It’s about love and giving yourself over to someone completely.
Wow.
For more on this amazing compilation, including an interview with the man who put it together–and an astounding mix of this music, head to The Guardian.
To hear some of it being spun live, please join us early at Make It New this week when the label’s owner and, really, visionary A&R exec Deano Sounds steps into the mix.
