Resident Advisor is currently running a long read piece detailing some recent advancements in audio technology for live shows. Three Japanese sound engineers whose influential work has paved the way for these evolutions are profiled, including Yasushi Asada.
“What I do is to adjust the monitor sound closer to that on the dance floor,” said Asada. This kind of thing wasn’t possible back in the day, so you used to get some people saying, ‘DJs shouldn’t be relying on the monitors, they should be listening to the dance floor.'”
“For me, an ideal dance floor would be one where you wouldn’t have to pay attention to anything, where you’d just be able to enjoy the music,” said Asada.
