The trial version is now called Serato Lite (formerly Serato Intro), while the full version has been renamed Serato DJ Pro. Where previous versions required a controller or proprietary hardware, the new versions don’t. They now come with a “practice mode” that allows for in-computer mixing.
New users can now download Serato Lite and get started immediately without a license or any kind of controller.
In this Friday’s workshop you learn the foundations of DJing w/ Serato:
— How to create crates
— Moving the tracks to the decks
— Que points
— Linking iTunes music to Serato
— Basic Mixing
We will discuss the difference between Vinyl vs. Digital vs. Controller. You also will use Serato to learn tempo and pitch, and basic mixing tips for beat-matching.

There can be little argument that DJ Q-Bert is one of the greatest turntablist/DJs of all time. So when he and Yogafrog met up with a developer to talk about a new-era DJ mixer, the results are plain as day: Meet The Invader.
Digital DJing is a field full of compromises. Sure, lugging a laptop to a gig allows for a near-infinite library of music and beyond-human technical abilities, but it also makes you look like a colossal dork. It is for this reason that many digital DJs have long sought a solution that incorporates the benefits of laptops withouts the aesthetic hangups.
What do you think? Will a PC-Powered mixer eventually replace the mixer itself? We’re talking turntablism tonight in our free workshop:
For most of last week, we were celebrating and discussing the turntable. Columbus Day holiday has us featuring a bonus video with our instructor and all-around supreme scratching champion DJ Rugged One.
